Objectives: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationships among children¡¯s self-concept||| cross-cultural experiences||| and multicultural acceptance.
Methods: The participants in this study were elementary school students (354 male and 329 female) in 4th through 6th grade in Seoul and Kyunggi-do. The researchers used Pearson correlations to analyze the relationships among children¡¯s self-concept||| cross-cultural experiences||| and multicultural acceptance.
Results: The researchers found a statistically significant positive correlation between total self-concept and total multicultural acceptance. In particular||| the personal||| social||| and academic dimensions of self-concept were significantly highly correlated with multicultural acceptance. There was not a statistically significant relationship between the participants¡¯ total cross-cultural experience and their total multicultural acceptance. However||| the researchers found a significant relationship between participants¡¯ multicultural education experience and their competence in multicultural relations and multicultural awareness.
Conclusions: These findings indicate that children¡¯s self-concept influences their multicultural acceptance in all sub-factors: multicultural awareness||| multicultural empathy||| competence in multicultural relations||| and multicultural openness.
